I. The Withdrawal Agreement and the Political Declaration on the framework for future relations

The Italian Government Continues Its Preparations for Brexit

On 25 November 2018, the extraordinary European Council “Art.50” (of twenty-seven[1]) gave the go-ahead to the Agreement to withdraw the United Kingdom from the EU and approved the Political Declaration on the framework for future relations.

This agreement is of fundamental importance and will make it possible to manage the British withdrawal (an unprecedented process) in an orderly manner and in clear terms for citizens and businesses, also providing, after the exit of 29 March 2019, a transitional period until 31st December, 2020.

The agreement fully transposes the Italian priorities, from the protection of citizens’ rights and the protection of geographical indications, to the settlement of the UK’s financial debts to the EU budget and the prospects for a deep and ambitious economic and security partnership.
